Yes the movie is different from the original album story...and the musical is again different from the movie..and also a bit different from the original album story.

GREAT  LOUISE   ----- it  was    different as   tacom said   -- and in the end looks like  mum  ( ann  margaret ),  and    her  bloke  (   oliver  reed  ) are   killed  and then  tommy runs   to the  mountains  singing !!!   ------  some  parts  were  weird in  film  and  i  liked   joes  musical    much  more  than   film    especially     the    jumping  acrobatics   in  and  on pin  ball  machine   and the   freddy styled    rock  star    bit !!!   all in  all  joes   musical  was    better and  more  fun  to  watch   for  me    IMO    :D

The film was definitely different!!  Some of the story was clearer or made more sense especially the end 'not gonna take it' bit which I thought was unclear in the theatre production (but maybe I had just lost concentration by then!).  I also think the husband dying worked well too. Some crazy embellishments by Ken Russell!

Yes, the latter was also the original idea on the album.

Also, in the stage version, the religious aspects are toned down considerably. The lyric "Don't want no religion, and as far as we can tell..." is changed. Tommy is presented as a pop culture phenom rather than a new messiah.

Yes the religious element has been removed from the stage version.

An issue that I couldn't sort out until after I had seen Joe's Tommy 3 times was the 'messiah/pop star' issue.  I decided that the 'come to my house' and 'not gonna take it' scenes made sense with Tommy as messiah (as in the film) but were confusing with Tommy as pop star.

The scenes with the girl at the 'concert' were also very different in the film with the girl ending up being disfigured by it rather than being 'befriended' by Tommy.  And the few lines of spoken dialogue between Tommy and the girl 'being more like you' were created for the stage version.

After all this time we have finally got the money back from the travel insurance for our cancelled holiday.  We had to pay a cancellation fee but we have the bulk of it back.

By the way my sister is still not well.  It is her back and/or shoulder which pains her a lot of the time.  She gets very weary too.  She is on pain medication all the time.
