All those spikes on the charts everytime Joe is mentioned in the media haven't really made much impact on sales.  An extra 8,000 for Classic so far this year, another 57,000 needed for platinum.  Even with HWIB creating renewed interest in Classic, it's not turning out as easy as I would have thought.

Sales (music week)

2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry racks up his fourth album in less than two years, debuting at number eight (10,677 sales) with Here's What I Believe. The 21 year old Geordie is the first X Factor graduate to place four albums in the Top 20, having previously charted with Wide Awake (number three, 2010, 103,226 sales), Classic (number two, 2011, 245,320 sales) and Classic Christmas (number 15, 2011, 115,180 sales). Had he only been an X Factor winner he may have been less successful but he subsequently won a second TV singing contest - Pop Star to Opera Star - and has appeared on the West End stage, as well as TV.

HWIB: 10,677

To date sales:

WA: 103,266
C: 245,230
CC: 115,180

Think it might have something to do with his scheduled appearance on Corrie the Musical or perhaps Dirty Dancing. They might have heard something about that and just assumed ;)

i know they are news papers so ASSUME  everything --- maybe get FACTS RIGHT  once in a while --- they get paid enough to print truth  but print a load of assumptions instead ----- alot of xf stars are on west end --- but ---  NOT  joe mcelderry ( altho i wouldnt mind seeing joe in a west end show  at some time in career -- he hasnt done one yet )just theink journos need to start sticking to facts  for once .

sorry ping / mihi  but im so fed up with papers  that print assumptions -- that is why i dont read then anymore :D

http://www.musicweek.com/news/read/official-charts-analysis-gangnam-style-sales-increase-445/051900

After debuting at number one last week, The XX's second album, Coexist dips to number four (22,005 sales), and Bob Dylan's Tempest falls 3-8 (10,398 sales). The Script's #3 holds up better, declining 2-3 (27,536 sales).  Also new to the Top 10 last week, Joe McElderry's Here's What I Believe ebbs 8-19 (5,888 sales) and The Pet Shop Boys' Elysium collapses 9-37 (3,123 sales).

W1 - 10,677
W2 -   5,888
T    -  16,565

Is your  :roll3:  for MW getting the position wrong BR - you'd think they would know better that that.   So half the sales last week to this week, hmmm (but really there isn't a huge difference between the sales of #18 and #37)

Thanks for the info

Many thanks for the info, Blackenroses.

It's really a tough moment for the music industry.
