More very interesting info.

Is it 300,000 for platinum? And would that be all sales around the world?

it would be UK only because in the U.S, the number of sale for each award is different.
the award is given by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) which is the British record industry's trade association.

OK. Just wondered how they say "platinum" albums on shows like XF when the artists can be from UK/US etc. Do they have different numbers there?

Platinum in US requires 1,000,000 sales (or shipped copies)

in the U.S.A it's the RIAA certification (Recording Industry Association of America) and numbers are as follow

Gold when it ships 500,000 copies
Platinum when it ships 1,000,000 copies
Multi-Platinum when it ships at least 2,000,000 copies

high numbers, but it's more of them in the country I suppose ;)

So on XF when they say "platinum" it means a different number depending on the nationality of the artist? Very confusing.

it may still be their sales in the UK if they are not from here.
But also I think sometimes they say: platinum in x number of countries.
or multi platinum albums around the world...
or something like that ;)

Take Adele , 21 is platinum several times over in the UK & US whereas Olly for example is double platinum in the UK only. The criteria for classification is higher in the US as it seems to be dependent on the size of the country. On the music week chart I think I saw a special classification if you were platinum in the UK & in the US too.

I hope they promote Classic Christmas again this year.  I'm sure there's more sales to be squeezed out of that one.  They've got plenty of time to plan some TV appearances.

Thanks for the info Blackenroses.

Would be good if there are some adverts etc for Classic Christmas at the end of the year, but I really can't see any tv appearances coming from it.  Why would he be on the tv promoting an album that has been out a year? Thats not really how it works in the industry, unless you are Lady Gaga or someone and promote the same album for 2 years releasing 6 singles, alot of artists would move on to the next album after that period of time.

A seasonal album like CC would probably sell without promo providing it's on the shelves to buy.

Joe's also on a couple of compilation albums.  Ambitions is on Now That's What I Call Music 77.  With 44 songs and sales of 1,200,000, Joe would account for 27,000 of those.  He's also on Now That's What I Call Classical with IDAD.  I imagine sales would be much lower for that one.

This year we could at least expect to see him included on the next (UK) Christmas Compilation.

I've been keeping an eye on the iTunes Classical album chart (they mis coded Classic as such). last week it was 68, this week it's 58!
