Useful Links & Info, re- Requests, Streaming for Joe :)

Requesting

Websites, addresses, telephone numbers, email and more for all areas of the online media, including 814 radio stations, 512 television channels, 1,588 newspapers, and 1,966 magazines - from 285 media owners - are all here.

Radio stations are filed under their initial letter, excluding 'BBC' and 'Radio'. So, find BBC Radio Four under 'F', and Radio Aire under 'A'. Or search for a station or place.

Quote
Taken from Lambritetty/Stardust’s ‘Requesting Adam’s music on UK radio’ thread:

-Try to stick to requesting the song on radio stations in your local area, as your IP address is visible when you send an email/tweet (text messaging is OK though as locations can’t be tracked) and if the station notices emails coming from further afield they may get suspicious, unless you mention in your email that you are listening online (if they have that facility on their site)

- Check the suitability of the station before making a request – if their playlist is heavily one genre (e.g. heavy metal, rap) it’s unlikely they’d play Adam. Stations Adam visited during his promotional tour in 2010 are also more likely to play him, since the staff would have met him/be aware of him and they are more likely to have the song on their playlist.

-Check which DJ is currently on air (schedule links are provided below) and address them by name in your message. Check that a specialist show (e.g. golden oldies hour, chart rundown) isn’t currently on before you make your request.

- Make your request personal (e.g. request it for your friend/partner) and keep it short and sweet and not too wordy or too gushy about Adam. DJs/music programmers want to know the song is or will be popular with their listeners, not what Adam’s existing fans think about him. Never mention a fan group or say you’re from a particular website, as this will make it look too much like an organised campaign.

- Always be polite and friendly. Don’t complain if they didn’t play your request, as they may have decided to do it the next day or later in the week or want to think about it. Just politely request again a few days later.

- If the song isn’t on their playlist yet, only request it a few times a week and word your request more as a suggestion, e.g. ‘Have you heard Better Than I Know Myself yet? I’d love to hear it sometime on [name of station].’

- Once the track is on their playlist, you can request it more frequently, but be careful not to overdo it. If you can contact individual shows or DJs, you can request once a day for each show.

- Requesting again or giving the station positive feedback just after they play the song can be beneficial. If you hear the song while you are listening or read on Twitter/fan site that it has just been played, contact the DJ to tell them how much you liked the song.

We hope this list is a useful tool for everybody; please let us know if you have any suggestions on how we can improve it or any general feedback. Thanks for making the effort to help promote Adam’s single in the UK – let’s hope it pays off and that Never Close Our Eyes is the big hit it deserves to be!

Official Streaming Chart Top 100

Quote
Just to let everyone know, the OCC have recently introduced a streaming chart, I have no idea when this happened, but it's something I've been wanting to happen for a while. The thing is, it only seems to count for singles or individual songs, so if Joe does release a single, we can put it on repeat on Spotify or we7 and try and get it into this chart. If he just does focus tracks, we can try with them too and see what happens.
http://www.officialcharts.com/official-streaming-chart/

Just found an article on it.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17997139

"The new chart will count streams of tracks on both advertising funded [free] and subscription-based services. Sites such as Spotify offer users both options."

"The chart will begin by collecting data from six services - Spotify, We7, Napster, Deezer, Zune and ChartsNow but could expand to include other services at a later date."

"It is confirmed that the new Streaming Chart will not include streams of music videos online through sites such as Vevo and YouTube."

Great info -  :thankyou:

Think some of us may need a guide re. streaming services and how to use them - following my experiences with Spotify and we7 :-)

Yes please! We don't have any streaming services here. :( (3rd World country :snigger:)

Well some streaming services offer more songs than others, in my experience we7 and spotify offer the biggest selection. All the streaming services count towards the same chart, so if you found one your satisfied with, you won't need the others ;)

I'll start off with what they have in common, they're both streaming services which allows you to play basically any album or single which is out, we7 has albums that spotify haven't and the same other way round. Both are either free with adverts or you can pay to get rid of them and to get the services on your phone.

We7
Advantages:
Has a little radio feature, once you finish an album, it starts playing songs that are related, and there's a dislike button if you don't like the song and they'll never play that song for you again.
It's a website, so you can go on it from any computer.
You can get the radio app for free (but you don't get requests on there.)

Disadvantages:
The limit is 50 requests a month (not a problem for me because I get 50 a day because I was a member before the update)

Spotify
Advantages:
Easy to search for what you want to listen to.
It says what your listening to on Facebook

Disadvantages:
The limit is 10 hours a month, a lot longer than 50 requests a month but not as long as 50 requests a day.
It doesn't work on a 5 year old mac.
If you try muting your computer during an ad, it will just pause the ad.
It says what your listening to on Facebook
